The Abby Yung Method Step 6: In-shower Conditioning

The Abby Yung Method Step 6:  In-shower Conditioning

The next step in the Abby Yung method is in-shower conditioning. This step includes conditioners, hair masks and glosses. These products have pretty much the same goal of conditioning our hair. The type of product that you use depends.

Glosses: The texture of glosses is usually very light and thin. They are more benficial for fine and thin hair types. These are for anyone wanting to add extra softness and shine.

Masks: The texture of masks is ususally the thickest and heaviest. These are recommended for coarse and thick hair types. Masks are recommended for anyone who wants more intense conditioning.

Conditioners: The texture of conditioners is inbetween masks and glosses. They are usually not to thin and not to heavy. Sometimes thats not always the case. Sometimes masks are light weight. And sometimes they're are conditioners that are heavier than a mask.

Choosing a products mainly relies on how your hair reacts to the formula you try. There is no personal preference. For me, I do a mask once a week, after shampooing my hair but before the conditioner. But for the next wash day I only shampoo and condition my hair without using a mask.

Abby's Top Recommendations:

GLOSS:

  1. L'Oreal Glycolic Gloss ($10)

I’ve been using this hair mask for a few months now and honestly, it works perfectly on my curly, dry hair. After just one use, my hair felt noticeably softer, shinier, and more hydrated.

It’s not too heavy it gives my curls that healthy, moisturized bounce without weighing them down. It is more of a runny, extra thin conditioner. The gloss effect is real. It leaves a subtle shine that looks natural, not greasy or fake. For a more a liquidy gloss,  L'Oreal Wonder Waters is recommended:

The results last a few days, even after a couple of washes, which is impressive. I use it once a week and that seems to be enough to keep my hair smooth and frizz-free.

The quality of the product feels salon-level, and it rinses out easily without any buildup or residue. The texture is rich but not sticky, and it spreads really well through the hair.

Highly recommend if you’ve got dry, textured, or curly hair and want a quick moisture + shine boost that actually lasts.

2.)  Amika the Flash  ($32)

This works best on fine hair. It has a pleasant smell. This hair mask has restored the silkiness of to my hair. It is much smoother and shinier. It only takes a few minutes to work. Does it do what is advertised? Yes! Does it go above and beyond? I would say yes. My hair has noticeable shine and silkiness vs when I do not use it.

CONDITIONER: (Lightweight)

1.) Not Your Mother's Tough Love Bonding Conditioner

This is recommended for hair that is easily weighed down. It is the lightest conditioner that she suggests. This conditioner really works! When you have thin damaged hair like me, it can be disheartening to try product after product in search of something that really helps your situation. My hair has never looked better. After only one use, my hair looks ten times better. Smooth, thick and shiny. I didn't think my hair could ever look this good.

For curly, thick hair it might not work. It didn't 't feel like it reduced frizz and hair would still feel dry after using this.

2.) Garnier Hair Filler Strength Repair Conditioner ($7)

The first use my hair felt better. I'd say the texture matches my favorite conditioners. It's not too thick. And it's too thin where it just slides off your palm or through your fingers. Heaven sent product in terms of moisturizing. My hair was so soft and retained that way even after, where moisture seems to just disperse as quickly as it goes into my hair. Haven’t had any excessive shedding or breakage with it.

3.) Pantene Miracle Rescue Deep Conditioner

My hair was so damaged and frizzy before I used I used this conditioner. I have hair that hangs just below my shoulders and it is prone to breakage. I’ve tried different types of conditioner and nothing helped. I use a lot of heat on my hair, so it dried it out. It looked horrible! The only other alternative would have been go get it cut short, which I will not do. I would never have expected the results that I got from an inexpensive product. My hair is so shiny, soft and healthy looking. It is so much more manageable. The frizz is gone and it doesn’t look damaged at all. I am so impressed with this product that I am recommending it to anyone who needs extra conditioning. I highly recommend this conditioner! It’s worth the price!

Conditioners (Thick and Creamy)

 4.) L'Oreal Paris Bonding Conditioner ($10)

This conditioner rivals top salon brands in terms of quality and benefits. You're not going to get overnight results, but use this consistently for 6 months and you'll notice a markable difference in your hair strength, softness and damage. It made my hair super soft and shiny. I really like this conditioner. I’ve tried a lot of different bond repair conditioners and treatments and have found this one to be very thick, almost like a mask. I have medium to long color-treated hair, and I use it on my lengths and ends, then sparingly the further up I go. I never put on the roots.  I’ve never felt like this conditioner weighed my hair down or caused it to look greasy. I enjoy the scent’s light sweetness.

5.) Dove Bond Strength Conditioner ($5)

What I love about this conditioner/ brand is that I noticed within the first wash you will notice how soft and manageable your hair becomes! I love that the ingredients feel gentle and nourishing, especially since I color my hair. I love how hydrated it made my hair look and feel.  I did not expect that I would love it within the first use. The scent is clean and fresh. I would rate this 4 out of 5 stars.

6.) Redken Acidic Bonding Conditioner  ($34)

I will start off by saying I loved this the first time I tried it but for some reason when I kept using it I felt like it wasn't doing much for my hair. I have low porosity hair and I feel like this did not work for it the way I expected. It does have a creamy texture that's not to thick. Ir rinses easy and doesn't leave any buildup. It has a clean smell, nothing sweet or floral.

7.) Amika the Kure Conditioner ( $28)

This is one of the pricier conditioners as well. I will start off by saying this has my hair feel very strong. As I mentioned before I have color treated hair and this has pretty much saved my hair. It makes my hair feel really hydrated. It doesn't weigh my hair down. It does not feel oily or greasy. I love using anything shampoo/ conditioner that is for bond repair since my hair has been prone to breakage! Would recommend this for weak hair!
